Srinagar: Police on Saturday said they have arrested eight drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag, Baramulla & Budgam and recovered huge quantities of contraband substances from their possession.
In Shangus, a raid at the residence of Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh of Patti Sheikhpora led to the arrest of Riyaz Sheikh and Aadil Latif, resident of Doudpora Brah, and recovery of approximately 5.75 kg of ‘Ganja’ (marijuana).
Similarly, at Sangam Chowk, Saqib Ahmad Lone of Natipora Sangam, was arrested and 140 grams of ‘Charas’ (cannabis) was recovered from him.
At Bumzoo KP Road one Reyaz Ahmad Mochi of New Colony Mattan was arrested after 5.24 kg of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.
In Uttrasoo, a raid at the residence of Ajaz Ahmad Lone of Cheerpora resulted in recovery of 2.225 kg of marijuana.
Police said approximately 17.27 kg of crushed cannabis like substance (‘Bhang Bhoosa’) and 23 grams of cannabis pieces, were recovered during raid on the residential premises of Ghulam Mohidin Sheikh of Manzigam
In Baramulla, police recovered a “significant quantity” of contraband following disclosure of accused Muzaffar Ahmad Dar of Hanjiwera from the tin-shed belonging to his brother Mohammad Altaf Dar.
In Budgam, Rehan Ahmed Bhat of Dachan Beerwah was arrested after 28 grams of cannabis-like substance in stick form wrapped in corn husk, was recovered from his possession.
Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations against all these people for further investigation, police said.
