Srinagar: A four-storey Islamic seminary and an attached mosque were damaged in a fire incident in the Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Friday, officials said.
The fire broke out in Jama Arabia Ashraful Uloom, an L-shaped structure, and spread from the top floor. The exact cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
Officials said hundreds of students studying at the seminary were evacuated safely after the fire broke out and no loss of life was reported.
The top floor of the building was completely gutted, while the second and third floors suffered partial damage during the firefighting and cooling operation.
A fire official said at least 12 fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the blaze under control.
During the operation, two firefighters and a civilian sustained minor injuries.
The attached mosque was also damaged in the incident.
Further assessment of the damage and the cause of the fire is underway.
