Ganderbal: Ganderbal Police, continuing its sustained drive against unauthorised service providers in the tourist destination of Sonamarg, conducted a special enforcement operation on Wednesday.
During the drive, one individual, identified as Muzafar Ahmad Khatana, son of Gh Nabi Khatana, resident of Sumbal Bala Gund, Ganderbal, was found operating at the tourist resort Sonamarg using a forged license. “Acting promptly, police took cognisance of the offence and registered FIR No. 04/2026 under relevant sections of law, at Police Station Sonamarg,” a police spokesperson said, adding that the investigation into the matter has been initiated.
In previous drives, 23 unauthorised service providers operating in violation of provisions of the Tourist Trade Act, 1978, were detained and fined accordingly.
Police said they are committed to ensuring a safe, lawful, and tourist-friendly environment in Sonamarg and have urged all stakeholders to strictly adhere to legal provisions. “The general public and visitors are advised to avail services only from authorised and registered providers,” the spokesperson said.
