Jammu: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Friday directed the government to take corrective measures within two months to safeguard the dignity, privileges and protocol of Members of the Legislative Assembly.
The Speaker issued the directions while concluding a short-duration discussion on the final day of the Assembly session.
The discussion was initiated by Pawan Kumar Gupta, who said that the dignity of MLAs had been compromised and alleged that legislators were not being taken into confidence while development plans for their constituencies were being prepared.
Rather asked the government to address the concerns raised by members and ensure that the dignity and privileges of legislators are maintained.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary assured the House that maintaining the dignity of MLAs is a matter of prime concern for the government.
He said the government takes complaints made by legislators seriously and assured action against officers found violating the privileges or protocol of members.
The discussion was also participated in by Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Hasnain Masoodi.
