Jammu: Singh Club Bandhu Rakh won the Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Hockey Tournament after defeating Khalsa Club Gole Gujral 5-3 in the final at K.K. Hakku Stadium here on Saturday.
The final witnessed an exciting contest, with both teams launching repeated attacks and displaying attacking hockey throughout the match.
Singh Club Bandhu Rakh took control early in the game by scoring two quick goals before halftime.
Khalsa Club Gole Gujral fought back and reduced the margin to make it 2-1, but Singh Club restored its advantage by scoring two more goals before the end of the third quarter.
Khalsa Club made another attempt to stage a comeback, but Singh Club Bandhu Rakh held firm and eventually sealed a 5-3 victory to lift the title.
Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu, Sher Singh, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Gurdev Singh, founder member of Khalsa Club and a refugee leader, attended the event as the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Sher Singh appreciated the organisers for conducting the tournament and said such sporting events are important in encouraging youth participation in sports.
He said sports activities can also play an important role in steering young people away from drug abuse.
Among those present were RTI activist and Vice-President of DGPC Jammu, Balvinder Singh, JKAS officer Paramjit Singh, General Secretary of Hockey J&K Dr. Taran Singh, Chief Patron Iqbal Singh, President Satvir Singh, General Secretary M.S. Reen and Treasurer Harkirat Singh.
