Jammu: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday trapped and arrested a head constable posted at Police Station Thanamandi for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Alyas. A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against him at Police Station ACB Rajouri through FIR No. 05/2026.
According to the ACB, the complainant had met with an accident near Shahdara Sharief on March 13 while travelling with his family in an Eeco vehicle. Several family members were injured and the vehicle was damaged.
Following the accident, FIR No. 26/2026 was registered at Police Station Thanamandi and the complainant’s vehicle was seized during investigation.
The complainant alleged that when he approached Mohd Alyas, the investigating officer in the case, for release of the vehicle, the official demanded ₹20,000 as bribe. Under pressure, the complainant initially paid ₹5,000.
The ACB said the accused later continued to harass and threaten the complainant, demanding another ₹15,000, which was eventually negotiated to ₹10,000.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau with a written complaint.
After verifying the allegations, the ACB constituted a trap team, which caught Mohd Alyas red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant.
The accused was arrested on the spot and the tainted money was recovered from his possession.
The ACB also carried out searches at the residence of the accused in Rajouri. Further investigation is in progress.
