Jammu: Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that Rs 136.67 lakh has been spent on the development and upgradation of sports infrastructure in the Billawar constituency during the past three years.
Replying to a question raised by legislator Satish Kumar Sharma, the Minister said the department has distributed 149 sports kits among schools and clubs in the constituency and regularly organises talent hunt programmes and selection camps at school and zone levels.
He informed the House that during the current financial year 2025-26, a playground at Higher Secondary School Lohai has been developed and upgraded at a cost of Rs 5.48 lakh, while a synthetic volleyball court has been constructed at Government Higher Secondary School Dhar Dugnoo at a cost of Rs 8.81 lakh.
The Minister said several projects are presently under execution, including the construction of a practice pitch, competition pitch, volleyball court and allied works at the Billawar playfield at an approved cost of Rs 35 lakh under CAPEX.
He added that the construction of a playfield at Ridi, Ward No. 7 in Panchayat Malti of Billawar, approved under CAPEX at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, is also being taken up on a war footing.
Satish Sharma further informed that 53 awareness programmes, sports activities and competitions have been organised in the constituency over the past three years, adding that special focus will be laid on promoting sports in rural and border areas.
