JAMMU: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today said that about 30 road construction works have been undertaken for execution under both Pothole and Cities and Towns (C&T) programmes during the 2025- 26 fiscal.
The Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a question raised by the Legislator Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani in the Legislative Assembly.
Sharing details, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that the works worth an estimated cost of Rs 519.34 lakh undertaken under Potholes programme for execution included improvement of link road from aarath to Rassu, inner links of Checki Kawoosa and Kawoosa khalisa, Mazhama and Batpora, S.K. Pora and Shipora, Chayers khulchi Road, Lalpora Road, inner Links of Gooripora, Peth Kanihama and Hajibagh Paripora, Peth makhama, Bonmakhama, inner links of Bonhama, upgradation of Meri Pora Rathsuna, Pethkanihama to Cheyra Khalchi Road, Mokdam Mohalla link road at Watmagam, inner links at Pethmakhama, Rathsu, Rathsun and Chewdara.
He added that other works, including upgradation/improvement of link roads at Narbal, improvement of Beerwah Budgam Road, Iskanderpora Loolipora road and macadamization of inner links at Sonapah are under execution in the Beerwah Constituency.
Similarly, the Deputy Chief Minister said that as many as 12 works worth Rs. 459 lakh under Cities & Towns have been undertaken for the year 2025- 26 in Beerwah Constituency.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the remaining road construction works in Beerwah Constituency shall be executed in the near future. He said that no DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) under the nomenclature “Pethkoot-Dasan” and “Hokhlateri” roads are presently under formulation or consideration in the Department under NABARD or any other scheme. Legislator Saif Ud Din Bhat raised the supplementary question.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, informed the House that a Rs. 18 crore DPR has been prepared for protection works on Behani Khad, Sewa river and other local Nallahs in the Basholi area of Kathua district.
The Deputy Chief Minister said this while replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Legislator Darshan Kumar in the Legislative Assembly today on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that 22 families in the villages Jankher (Mora Kund) and Draman (Mora Tikri), falling under Tehsil Basohli, were affected by landslides and heavy rains and temporarily shifted to safer locations by the district administration of Kathua. He added that relief under SDRF norms, along with essential relief material including tents/tarpaulins, blankets and ration kits, was also provided to them.
He also informed that some affected families have applied for allotment of land and their cases are presently under consideration as per the norms.
The Deputy Chief Minister further said that the IFC department is primarily dealing with the works related to flood protection and anti-erosion measures pertaining to the River/Nallah/Khads. He said that DPR for the construction of Flood river training protection works on Behani Khad, Sewa river and other local Nallahs falling under FCSD Basohli, amounting Rs 1800 Lakh under NABARD, has been submitted by the IFC Division Kathua to higher authorities.
