Narco-Terrorism a direct threat to national security, youth: Sat Sharma

New Delhi: Sat Sharma CA, President, J&K BJP, and MP (Rajya Sabha), invoked a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha to draw urgent national attention to the rapidly escalating threat of narco-terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir, terming it a dangerous convergence of cross-border terrorism, illicit financial networks, and drug trafficking that is systematically undermining India’s internal security architecture and eroding the social and moral fabric of its youth.

Sat Sharma, while raising the issue, emphasised that Jammu & Kashmir, which has long stood as a strong shield against conventional warfare and infiltration, is now facing a new and more insidious challenge in the form of narco-terrorism. He warned that after failing to break the morale of the people through traditional terrorism, adversaries across the border have adopted a “silent war” strategy by pushing narcotics into the region.

Sat Sharma pointed out the clear and alarming nexus between drug trafficking, hawala networks, and cross-border terrorism. He stated that narco-terrorism is not merely a law-and-order issue but a well-planned, multi-dimensional conspiracy aimed at weakening the physical and mental strength of the youth, radicalizing vulnerable individuals, and financially supporting terrorist activities.

Sat Sharma quoted the official figure highlighting that more than ten lakhs of people in Jammu & Kashmir have already been affected by drug abuse, posing a severe threat to the social fabric of the region. He expressed deep concern that the youth, who should be the driving force behind development and progress, are being trapped in a dangerous web of addiction and exploitation.

Sat Sharma, while highlighting the national security implications, asserted that the proceeds from narcotics are being funneled through hawala channels to fund terror networks, thereby directly endangering the sovereignty and stability of the nation.

Sharma called for decisive and coordinated action, and urged the Government of India to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and adopt a “task force mode” approach. He specifically recommended enhanced coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and local agencies to dismantle the financial networks, hawala channels, and organized syndicates supporting narco-terrorism.

Sat Sharma further stressed the need for a comprehensive strategy that includes stricter border surveillance, intelligence sharing, financial tracking, and large-scale awareness campaigns to protect the youth from falling prey to drugs. He Sharma stated that this menace must be tackled with urgency and firmness to safeguard the nation and ensure a secure and prosperous future for its younger generations.
