Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday arrested an executive engineer of the Jal Shakti Department for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti (PHE), Mechanical Division, South Awantipora, Manzoor Ahmad Dar was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe, an ACB spokesman said.
Dar had demanded Rs 20,000 from the complainant for clearing his bills related to the Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) work. The complainant had already paid Rs 8,000, while the remaining Rs 12,000 was to be paid upon clearance of the bills.
Unwilling to pay any further bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which subsequently laid a trap and apprehended the accused while accepting the remaining amount, the spokesman said.
“He was arrested on the spot, and the bribe amount was also recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team,” he said, adding that subsequently the searches were also conducted at Dar’s residences.
