12 vehicles seized for illegal mining in Ganderbal, Shopian: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that 12 vehicles were seized in Ganderbal and Shopian districts during a crackdown on illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

According to a police spokesperson, in Ganderbal, nine tractors were seized within the jurisdictions of Police Station Kangan and Police Post Nagbal for extracting and transporting minerals without valid authorization. The vehicles were seized on the spot, and the matter was taken up with the Geology and Mining Department, which imposed fines under relevant provisions of law.

Similarly, in Shopian, a police team seized two dumpers and an L&T machine involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from Rambiara Nallah. In this regard, a case (FIR No. 37/2026) under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian, and further investigation has been initiated.

The spokesperson said police will continue its drive against illegal mining and urged the public to cooperate in protecting natural resources.
