In the journey of life, there are moments that define not only individuals but entire communities. These are the moments when humanity rises above boundaries, identities, and differences, and reveals its true essence compassion. In my four decades of life, I have witnessed many such instances where people came together in times of distress. I have seen generosity during the devastating earthquake in Uri, and I have seen humanity flow like the waters during the catastrophic floods in Kashmir. But what I have observed today surpasses all those memories. It is something unprecedented, something deeply moving, and something that reaffirms my belief that the soul of Kashmir is alive and thriving.

Today, Kashmir stands as a shining example of humanity in action. The ongoing donation campaign for the people of Iran, who are suffering in a war-torn environment, has ignited a spirit of giving that is both overwhelming and inspiring. People from all walks of life have stepped forward not just to contribute, but to stand in solidarity with those in distress. This is not merely charity; this is empathy in its purest form.

What makes this moment extraordinary is not just the scale of the donations, but the depth of sacrifice behind them. Reports from digital news platforms suggest that more than ₹500 crore has been collected in just three days. This figure alone is staggering, but numbers cannot fully capture the emotions and intentions behind these contributions. Behind every rupee donated, there is a story a mother parting with her cherished jewellery, a young student contributing his savings, a shopkeeper offering a portion of his daily earnings, and families donating essential items that hold personal value.

This is what defines the true soul of humanity. Donation is not about surplus; it is about sacrifice. It is about giving even when you have little, and sharing even when you yourself are in need. In a region like Kashmir, where people have faced decades of hardship, conflict, and uncertainty, such an outpouring of generosity carries even greater significance. It reflects resilience, empathy, and a deep-rooted cultural value of standing with the oppressed.

Kashmir has always been known for its hospitality and warmth. The tradition of helping others is embedded in its social fabric. Whether it is offering food to a stranger, shelter to a traveller, or support to someone in need, the people of Kashmir have always upheld the principle of humanity above all else. However, what we are witnessing today is a magnified version of that tradition a collective movement that transcends borders and politics.

The people of Iran, currently facing the horrors of war, may be miles away geographically, but they are close to the hearts of Kashmiris. This connection is not based on proximity, but on shared human values. Pain recognizes no boundaries, and suffering speaks a universal language. When Kashmiris see images of destruction, displaced families, and innocent lives caught in conflict, they do not see strangers they see fellow human beings in need of support.

What is particularly remarkable is the spontaneous nature of this campaign. There was no compulsion, no obligation, and no expectation of return. It was purely driven by conscience. Mosques, community centers, marketplaces, and even small neighborhoods became hubs of collection and coordination. Volunteers worked tirelessly, organizing donations, spreading awareness, and ensuring that every contribution reached the right channels.

Social media also played a crucial role in amplifying this movement. Messages of appeal, videos of donations, and updates about the campaign spread rapidly, encouraging more people to participate. However, unlike many digital trends that fade quickly, this movement has a strong foundation in genuine emotion and commitment. It is not about visibility; it is about responsibility.

Reflecting on the past, I recall the earthquake in Uri in 2005, when people across Kashmir opened their homes and hearts to the victims. I remember the floods of 2014, when communities came together to rescue, rehabilitate, and rebuild lives. Those were moments of unity and compassion. But even then, the response, though powerful, was largely localized—focused on helping our own people.

Today’s campaign is different. It extends beyond our immediate surroundings. It is an expression of global solidarity. It shows that the people of Kashmir do not limit their compassion to their own region—they embrace humanity as a whole. This shift from local to global empathy is a sign of maturity, awareness, and moral strength.

There is also a deeper message in this movement. In a world often divided by politics, religion, and ideology, such acts of generosity serve as reminders of what truly matters. They challenge the narratives of division and highlight the power of unity. They prove that even in times of conflict, humanity can prevail.

For the younger generation, this campaign is a lesson in values. It teaches them that success is not measured by wealth or status, but by the ability to make a difference in someone else’s life. It instills a sense of responsibility and encourages them to become active contributors to society. When children see their parents donating, when students participate in collection drives, and when youth lead volunteer efforts, they are not just helping others they are shaping their own character.

Moreover, this movement reinforces the identity of Kashmir as a land of compassion. Often, the region is portrayed through the lens of conflict and turmoil. While those challenges are real, they do not define the essence of its people. The true identity of Kashmir lies in its ability to care, to give, and to stand with others in times of need.

It is also important to acknowledge the role of community leaders, religious scholars, and local organizations in guiding and supporting this initiative. Their efforts in mobilizing people, ensuring transparency, and maintaining trust have been instrumental in the success of this campaign. They have demonstrated that leadership is not about authority, but about service.

As I reflect on this extraordinary moment, I feel a sense of pride and hope. Pride in being part of a community that values humanity above all else, and hope that such acts of kindness will continue to inspire others. In a world that often feels overwhelmed by negativity, these moments of compassion serve as beacons of light.

The phrase “Zindabad Kashmir” carries a deeper meaning today. It is not just a slogan it is a celebration of the spirit of Kashmir. It is a tribute to the people who, despite their own struggles, choose to stand with others. It is a declaration that the soul of Kashmir is alive, strong, and unwavering.

In conclusion, donation is indeed the soul of humanity. It is the purest expression of compassion, the strongest bond between people, and the most powerful response to suffering. What we are witnessing in Kashmir today is a testament to this truth. It is a reminder that no matter how difficult the circumstances, humanity has the power to rise, to unite, and to make a difference.

May this spirit continue to grow, May it inspire others across the world, and may it always remind us that in giving, we not only help others, we discover the best within ourselves.

Zindabad Kashmir.
