Dubai: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday officially announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 20, 2026, after the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted.
The moon-sighting committee convened to observe the crescent but confirmed that it was not visible, completing 30 days of Ramadan in accordance with Islamic tradition, which determines the beginning of a new month through lunar observation.
With the announcement, March 19 will be observed as the final day of Ramadan, and Eid-ul-Fitr will commence the following day.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Al Ruzaiqi, spokesperson for the ministry, said the early announcement was aimed at providing clarity to employers and employees ahead of the holiday period. He noted that it would help organisations plan work schedules, ensure continuity in essential services, and enable workers to fully observe the festive break.
