Bhaderwah: A police head constable and his wife were killed, while their two children were injured after their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a stream in Doda district on Friday, officials said.
The accident occurred around 9 am when the four were on their way to Bani from Bhaderwah in their SUV.
Head Constable Zulfikar Ali, who was posted with the District Special Branch (DSB) in Bhaderwah, and his wife Rehana Begum died on the spot, the officials said.
Their two children — Arshad Ahmed (20) and Kamran Ahmed (24) — sustained injuries in the incident, they said, adding they have been shifted to the sub-district hospital in Bhaderwah.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Doda district. He has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
He prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident near Basti village in Bhaderwah that claimed the lives of Head Constable Zulfikar Ali of J&K Police and his wife.
He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery to their injured children.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh condoled the loss of lives in the accident.
“Just now spoke to DC Doda, Krishan Lal, after learning about the tragic road accident near Basti village of Bhaderwah, in which unfortunately, a head constable of Jammu & Kashmir Police, Zulfikar Ali and his wife lost their lives,” he said in a post on X.
Their two children, who were also travelling with them, were injured but are out of danger, he said, adding that all possible assistance is being provided.
