Srinagar: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday informed the House that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Sadhna Tunnel in the Karnah area of Kupwara district is currently in progress.

Responding to a question by MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone regarding the status of the Sadhna Tunnel and the proposed tunnel linking South Kashmir with Kishtwar, the government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the alignment of the Sadhna Tunnel is being finalized in consultation with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).

“On the Singhpora–Vailoo Tunnel project in Kishtwar district, aimed at providing all-weather connectivity between South Kashmir and Kishtwar, the government said that the project was initially sanctioned under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme,” the reply states.

“However, with the Bharatmala Pariyojana no longer in implementation, the project is currently under consideration for re-sanction under the National Highways (Original) [NH(O)] scheme.”

The government added that the project will be executed by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) as the implementing agency.—(KNO)
