Uri (Baramulla): A victim-support outreach programme titled “Dardnama: From Silence to Strength — A Testament of Courage and Survival” was held on Thursday at the Auditorium Hall of Government Degree College Uri, bringing together families affected by militancy and cross-border shelling from Boniyar and Uri tehsils of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The event was organised by the Save Youth Save Future Foundation and was attended by nearly 100 affected families, many of whom, organisers said, had remained unheard for over three decades.
The programme aimed to provide a dignified platform for victims to share their experiences and to bring long-pending grievances into the public and administrative domain. Participants included widows, orphans, disabled persons and families who lost relatives in militant violence and shelling along the Line of Control.
Chairman of the Foundation Wajahat Farooq Bhat said a large number of genuine victims had remained “voiceless and invisible” despite suffering irreparable losses over the past 30 years. He stressed the need for systematic documentation of cases and coordinated follow-up with authorities to ensure justice and assistance.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi, who was the chief guest, assured the gathering that the district administration stands with the affected families. He heard individual grievances and directed concerned officials to address genuine cases on priority.
During the interaction session, participants shared personal accounts of loss, trauma and resilience. The Foundation documented pending cases and said the collected data would be pursued with the concerned departments in a structured and transparent manner.
The speakers also appreciated ongoing rehabilitation and relief initiatives for terrorism-affected families in Jammu and Kashmir, including measures related to assistance and employment support.
Senior office-bearers of the organisation, including Zonal President North Kashmir Ishfaq Ahmed Bhat and Provincial Coordinators Mohammad Maqbool Khan, Fayaz Ahmed Mir, Nasir Mehraj Bhat and Muzamil Farooq Bhat, were present on the occasion, while proceedings were conducted by Zia-ul-Islam.
The programme concluded with a pledge for continued outreach, documentation and advocacy to ensure that long-neglected victims of violence are recognised and rehabilitated with dignity.
