Jammu: The CID Counter-Intelligence (CI) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested a long-absconding accused wanted in a Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) case and executed an absconder warrant issued by a local court.
The arrested accused has been identified as Hilal Ahmed Bhat, son of Mohammad Assad Ullah Bhat, a resident of Poshpora, Kupwara, presently rsiding at Bhagani Talab Mohalla in Raipur Domana area of Jammu. The warrant had been issued under Section 512 CrPC by the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu, against Hilal Ahmed Bhat and his father Mohammad Assad Ullah Bhat.
Police said both were wanted in FIR No. 05/2007 registered under Sections 489-A, 489-B and 489-C RPC at Police Station CID (CI), Jammu, pertaining to circulation and possession of fake Indian currency. The accused had allegedly been evading arrest and court proceedings for nearly a decade and remained absconding during the trial.
Acting on specific intelligence, the Fugitive Tracking Team of CID (CI) Jammu launched a coordinated operation and apprehended Hilal Ahmed Bhat from Jammu. After his arrest, he was produced before the competent court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the other accused in the case.
Officials added that the operation reflects the “zero-tolerance approach” of CID J&K against FICN networks and their support structures, reiterating that all fugitives involved in fake currency and terror-related offences will be tracked and brought to justice.
