The exercise was carried out by Drugs Control Officer, Poonch Vikas Sharma under the overall supervision of Assistant Drugs Controller, Rajouri/Poonch Archana Mujoo and with the active cooperation of the Courier Service Provider.

A suspicious parcel was identified and opened in the presence of authorised personnel. Upon examination, a large quantity, i.e. 10000 Capsules of Pregabalin-300 (SP-NYL-300) & 5000 tablets of Tapentadol (Tapdol-100) medications, which were purported to be used for intoxication by antisocial elements was found concealed without valid documentation. Taking immediate cognizance in the matter, the team seized the consignment on the spot on Form-16 under the provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was being illicitly routed into the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir through a neighbouring State and was intended for unauthorised sale therein.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and destination of the parcel and the consignee details are being verified for initiating appropriate legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.

State Drugs Controller, J&K, Rajesh Kumar, appreciated the active cooperation extended by the courier service agency in the successful interception of the consignment. He has urged all courier service providers to extend full cooperation to the Government in its efforts to crack down on this illicit network

Lauding the efforts of sleuths of DFCO, Smita Sethi, Commissioner, FDA, J&K, reiterated that the Government of Jammu & Kashmir remains steadfast in its resolve to eradicate the menace of illegal drug trafficking from the Union Territory through sustained enforcement and coordinated action.
