3rd Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League kick-starts in Leh

Leh: The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League at the NDS Ice Hockey Rink, Leh.

The league was formally inaugurated with a ceremonial puck drop led by the Chief Secretary, Ashish Kundra, along with other senior officials, marking the official commencement of the tournament.

The event witnessed the presence of players, organisers, sports enthusiasts, and officials, reflecting the growing popularity of ice hockey in the region and Ladakh’s emergence as a prominent hub for winter sports.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary expressed his delight at being part of the prestigious sporting event and lauded the efforts of the organisers for promoting ice hockey in the region. He remarked that it was encouraging to witness the growing participation from teams across various regions of Ladakh.

He emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among various stakeholders to elevate the championship to an international level, enabling teams from across the world to participate and compete in Ladakh. He further extended his best wishes to all the participating teams, encouraging them to play in the true spirit of sportsmanship and excellence.

Kundra also noted that platforms such as the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League demonstrate how structured winter sports initiatives can bring communities together, strengthen regional identity, and create meaningful opportunities for youth during the winter months.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Rishab Shukla, ASP Leh; Rigzen Sangdup, Additional SP Leh; Namgyal Wangchuk Gyapo, President, Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh and Tsewang Dolma, Regional Lead, Royal Enfield Social Mission, amongst many others. DYSSO Leh and Kargil were also present.
