IGNOU starts admission process for Jan 2026 session

Srinagar: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has commenced the admission process for more than 350 academic programmes for the January 2026 session. Applicants can access the admission portal through the University’s website.

The admissions are open for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Certificate, Diploma and PG Diploma programmes offered in distance learning and online modes.

Before filling out the online application form, candidates are required to create a User ID and Password on the SAMARTH portal. Applicants must have an active mobile number, email ID, scanned copies of academic documents, a photograph and access to a debit card, credit card or net banking for payment of fees. Creation of a DEB ID is mandatory prior to submission of the application.

IGNOU has launched around 60 new programmes, including Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes (FYUP) in disciplines such as Commerce, Economics, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Anthropology, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Social Work, Philosophy, Biochemistry, and Facilities and Service Management. New postgraduate and professional programmes include MBA (Health Care and Hospital Management), MA (Environment and Occupational Health), PG Diploma in Geriatric Medicine, PG Diploma in Environment and Occupational Health, PG Certificate in Medical Management of CBRNe Disasters, Certificate in Health Care Waste Management, Certificate in Health and Care, MBA (Agribusiness Management), B.Sc. (Food Safety and Quality Management), Certificate in Geriatric Health and Care, Certificate in Smart City Development and Management, Diploma in Agricultural Cost Management, PG Diploma in Urban Planning and Development, M.Sc. Data Science and Analytics, M.Sc. Geography, Geo Informatics, Applied Statistics and Renewable Energy.

Dr Mohd Abdullah, Assistant Regional Director of the IGNOU Regional Centre, Srinagar, advised aspirants to apply only through the official IGNOU portal and cautioned them against fraudulent calls or requests seeking payment of admission fees via QR codes, WhatsApp, or other social media platforms, clarifying that IGNOU does not accept payments through such modes.

The last date for submission of online admission applications for the January 2026 session is January 31, 2026. Re-registration for the January 2026 session is also open till January 31, 2026.
