JAMMU: A meeting of the Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLA, Ali Mohammad Sagar, at the Assembly Complex, Jammu, to review audit para number 5.1 pertaining to Health & Medical Education Department (Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited) contained in CAG’s Audit Report for the year 2018.

Tanvir Sadiq, besides the Secretary, JKLA, Manoj Kumar Pandit were present in the meeting.

A threadbare discussion was held on various issues contained in CAG’s Audit para number 5.1 regarding deficiencies in the procurement of medicines and equipment by Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JK-MSCL).

Accountant General J&K, Tsewang Tharchin, also briefed the Committee about issues pointed out in the CAG’s report pertaining to the Health & Medical Education Department (JK MSCL).

The Committee discussed various issues, including delays in finalisation of the rate of contracts and consequent delay/non- non-procurement of medicines/drugs, instruments, machinery, and equipment, thereby defeating the purpose of creation of the Company.

Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, briefed the Committee about the status of audit paras and functioning of JK-MSCL. Besides MD JK MSCL, T H Ganai also briefed the Committee.

Legislators gave their valuable suggestions and highlighted the public issues besides the functioning of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited.

The Chairman of the Committee directed the senior officers to submit a fresh, comprehensive, detailed report within 7 days to the Committee for scrutiny by the Committee.

Among others, the Director Finance, H&ME and other senior officers of concerned department and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
