Valley reports nine fire incidents in 24 hours

Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley witnessed multiple fire incidents over the past 24 hours, with at least nine cases reported across north, central and south Kashmir, causing damage to residential and commercial properties, officials said on Friday.

Official data accessed by ‘Kashmir Images’ revealed that Srinagar recorded the highest number of fire incidents, with three such cases reported from different localities of the city.

At SD Colony, Batamalloo in Srinagar, a three-storey residential house suffered damage to its second floor and attic portion, while a four-storey commercial building in the Rajbagh area sustained damage to one of its rooms. A mutton shop was damaged in a similar incident at the Khanyar locality of the old city.

In north Kashmir, a four-storey residential house was damaged following a domestic gas cylinder leakage at Garkoot, Uri of Baramulla district. Another fire incident was reported from Check Mohalla, Mukdamyari in Hajin area of Bandipora district, where a single-storey residential house along with a tin-shed was damaged.

In south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a three-storey residential house was damaged following leakage in a traditional Hamam (heating system) at New Colony, Hazratbal, Janglatmandi. Separately, a Chinar tree was damaged in a fire incident at Magam Adlash, Srigufwara.

Meanwhile, in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, about 20 Kail trees of Forest Compartment No. N6 were damaged in a forest fire at Sarasyar in Chadoora. In another similar incident, a large Chinar tree was damaged in a fire at Sello area of Sopore in Baramulla district.

Assistant Director, Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Kashmir, Mir Aqib Hussain said fire service personnel responded promptly at all locations and brought the fires under control, thereby preventing major loss of life and property.

He advised the general public to maintain fire safety measures, ensure proper electric wiring and LPG installations, and report any fire emergency immediately to the Control Room.
