Deputy CM, ministers extend New Year 2026 greetings

Jammu: Senior members of the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday extended warm New Year 2026 greetings to the people of the Union Territory, expressing hope for peace, prosperity and collective progress in the coming year.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said the government remains firmly committed to pursuing its developmental agenda with renewed vigour, ensuring that the benefits of growth and progress reach every section of society. He emphasised that improving ease of living, strengthening basic infrastructure and delivering citizen-centric services transparently and efficiently would continue to be key priorities. Reiterating the government’s resolve towards inclusive growth and social justice, the Deputy Chief Minister said special emphasis would be laid on youth empowerment, employment generation, infrastructure development and welfare initiatives for marginalised sections. Highlighting J&K’s rich social fabric, he described the region as a shining example of secularism, harmony and mutual coexistence, and called upon people to support the administration in building a peaceful and developed Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, in her New Year message, expressed hope that 2026 would usher in prosperity and improved well-being for all. She said the New Year is a time for renewed optimism and collective resolve to work towards a healthier and more inclusive future. Stressing unity, compassion and shared responsibility, the Minister underlined the importance of strengthening the healthcare system and advancing people-centric governance. She expressed confidence that sustained governmental efforts, coupled with public cooperation, would lead to meaningful progress across sectors in the year ahead and prayed for peace and prosperity of the entire Union Territory.

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, also extended warm greetings, stating that the government is entering the New Year with a renewed commitment to inclusive and sustainable development. He said efforts would continue to strengthen essential services, improve ease of living and enhance transparency and efficiency in governance. Highlighting departmental initiatives, Sharma said uninterrupted availability of essential commodities at affordable prices would remain a priority, while transport and IT sectors would be further strengthened to improve connectivity, digital governance and public service delivery.

He added that youth empowerment and promotion of sports would remain among the top priorities, with enhanced sports infrastructure and greater opportunities for young people. Reiterating the government’s commitment to social justice and welfare of marginalised sections, he urged people to strengthen harmony and extend wholehearted cooperation in building a peaceful, progressive and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir in 2026.
