Srinagar: Police in Anantnag have arrested two timber smugglers involved in the illegal cutting of forest trees in the Kherpeth forest area, a police spokesperson informed on Tuesday.

He said, acting on specific and credible information regarding the involvement of Adil Ahmad Padder, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Padder of Larnoo, and Rayees Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Salaam Sheikh of Kherpeth — in illegal forest activities, police after registering a case under relevant sections of law, conducted a raid at the identified location in the Kherpeth forest area.

During the raid, the police recovered five logs of Kail timber which had been illegally cut from the forest. Both accused persons were arrested on the spot, and a hand saw used for cutting trees was also seized. They have been shifted to a police station where they remain in custody, police said.
