Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Monday welcomed several prominent political figures from different districts, along with their supporters, into the Congress Party.

He termed the development as an outcome of the party’s pro-people approach and its uncompromising fight for the protection of the constitutional rights of Jammu and Kashmir.

Advocate Younus Khan, former Apni Party leader from Shopian; Waseem Ahmad Shalla from Srinagar; and Sameer Bhat from Budgam joined the Congress Party along with hundreds of their supporters during a function held at the party’s Srinagar office. The new entrants expressed full faith in the pro-people policies of the Congress and the capable leadership of Tariq Hameed Karra.

They assured the JKPCC President that they would actively participate in every endeavour and struggle of the Congress Party to serve the people to the best of their ability, stating that the Congress has a long legacy of empowering and serving people without discrimination.

Welcoming the new leaders, Karra said that prominent political faces, including youth leaders, are joining the Congress as it is the only party that truly represents the aspirations and urges of the people and remains committed to protecting the dignity and rights of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that the Congress has always been at the forefront of opposing every move by the BJP–RSS aimed at undermining J&K’s identity and would continue its fight for the restoration of statehood with full constitutional guarantees.

“The fight for statehood is the party’s indigenous movement and will continue,” Karra said.

Karra further stated that Jammu and Kashmir has suffered enormously on all fronts due to the BJP’s divisive and flawed policies. He reiterated the party’s unwavering stand to restore the dignity and honour of J&K, which, he said, were taken away by the BJP government “by a stroke of the pen.”

Senior Congress leaders present on the occasion included Abdul Gani Khan, Nissar Ahmad Mandoo, Media Coordinator Dr Audil Farooq Mir Lasjan, District Presidents Irfan Naqib, Er Muzaffar Dar, Reyaz Manhas, Shabnum Jan, and several other leaders.
