SRINAGAR: Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, today felicitated four of its renowned artisans who were recently conferred with the National Awards and Certificates of Excellence by the President of India at New Delhi.
MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, presented Certificates of Excellence and mementoes to the awardees, including Manzoor Ahmad Khan for carpet weaving, Khawaja Nazir Ali for Sozni embroidery, Mir Arshad Hussain for papier mache and Mashkoora Begum, for Sozni embroidery, in a glittering ceremony, in IICT/ CDI premises at Bagh-e-Ali Mardan Khan, here.
Director, Handicrafts and Handlooms, Kashmir, Mussarat Islam; Director IICT, Zubair Ahmad; Joint Director, Handicrafts, Deeba Khalid and other senior officers of the Department, besides UT Awardees 2024 were also present on the occasion.
In his address, Tanvir Sadiq congratulated the winners for bringing laurels to the famed Handicrafts sector of Kashmir. He also praised the Department for organizing such functions, which act as an elixir and motivate many others to make unique handmade products for the ever-expanding niche markets for Kashmir Handicrafts, both within and outside the country.
In response to the demand for creating a Crafts Hall of Fame, Tanvir Sadiq assured the department of his full support, as the same shall bring the highly skilled craftsmen of Kashmir into the public domain.
Earlier, Director Handicrafts & Handloom presented a detailed overview of the activities of Handicrafts and Handloom Department, with focus on its brand promotion campaign under ‘Soulful Kashmir’ as well as development of a new software for GI QR labelling to secure the future of authentic handmade products from Kashmir.
