Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President led senior party leaders, district presidents, block presidents and workers in observing the party’s 140th Foundation Day at the Srinagar Party Office.
On the occasion, he highlighted the supreme sacrifices and selfless service of the Congress Party towards nation-building, people’s empowerment, and the preservation of unity and harmony in the country.
Addressing the gathering, the JKPCC President reaffirmed the party’s commitment, under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, to uphold the values of the Constitution of India. He said that every Congress worker and leader feels duty-bound to fight to safeguard the Constitution and protect democracy and democratic institutions, which guarantee justice and equality.
The JKPCC President conveyed heartfelt greetings to every Congress worker, whose unwavering commitment and hard work continue to sustain the party as a movement. He reiterated that the Congress remains the only unifying force in the country and stands as a guarantor of constitutional rights for every citizen, irrespective of caste, region, religion or colour.
Karra urged party workers and block presidents to rise to the occasion to further strengthen the Congress at the grassroots level, while making every effort to serve the people, which he said remains the core philosophy of the Indian National Congress. “We have fought against divisive forces in the past and will continue to ensure that forces inimical to the secular fabric, unity and harmony of the country are defeated,” he added.
Participants joined Tariq Hameed Karra in taking a pledge, which he read out, reiterating the resolve to make every possible effort to protect and uphold the Constitution.
Later, the JKPCC President presided over a monthly review meeting of blocks across the Kashmir region, attended by block presidents from all districts. The participants provided feedback on organisational activities at the ground level and briefed the PCC President on the prevailing socio-political scenario in their respective blocks. They also detailed the political activities and workers’ meetings conducted during the month.
Emphasising the need to rejuvenate Block Congress Committees (BCCs), Karra said that BCCs play a crucial role in shaping and restructuring the party at all levels.
On the occasion, the JKPCC President distributed appreciation certificates among block presidents and workers for their active involvement in the party’s indigenous movement “Hamari Riyasat, Hamar Haq,” launched for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He congratulated them for their tireless efforts and enthusiasm in making the movement successful.
Senior Congress leaders, legislators, former legislators, district presidents, heads of frontal organisations and block presidents from across the Kashmir region participated in the programme.
