Baramulla: The mother of senior journalist Karamat Qayoom passed away after a prolonged illness in the early hours of Tuesday. She was 102.
The departed soul, known for her piety, simplicity, and dignified life, is survived by a large and respectable family. Her Namaz-e-Janazah was offered at 11:30 AM at Eidgah-e-Qadeem, Baramulla.
A large number of people from different walks participated in her funeral prayers and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. Members of the journalistic fraternity, social and political activists, traders, legal luminaries, religious scholars, and civil society representatives thronged the residence to offer condolences.
Condolence and prayer meetings (Fateha Khwani) were held throughout the day, wherein rich tributes were paid to the departed soul. Speakers expressed grief and extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of Karamat Qayoom.

A delegation of Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) led by its president Gulzar Ahmad, accompanied, general secretary Umar Rashid, and journalists from Pattan, Sopore, Tangmarg, Uri visited the bereaved family and offered their condolences. The delegation prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and courage for the family to bear the loss.
Maqsood Ahmad, broadcaster and producer (retd.) and Mohammad Hussian Zaffar, along with other members of All India Radio’s ‘Shaherbeen’ program, visited the family and expressed their solidarity.
