On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner visited various stalls set up by local artisans showcasing traditional winter wear, including pherans and blankets, aimed at promoting indigenous handicrafts and handloom products.

Speaking at the event, the Div Com said that the celebration of Pheran Day reflects the cultural significance of Chilai-e-Kalan, during which people make special preparations to cope with the extreme cold. He informed that the exhibition will continue for two days and has already witnessed a large public turnout at Kashmir Haat.

He emphasized that the pheran is a symbol of Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and the craftsmanship of local artisans. He congratulated the Handicrafts & Handloom Department for organizing the event and appreciated the artisans for showcasing their skills and products.

Garg also expressed satisfaction over the growing participation of youth in the handicrafts and handloom sector.

Highlighting ongoing initiatives, he noted that the department has been regularly organizing events such as Know Your Artisan and skill development programs to promote local crafts and artisans.

Regarding the forecast of snowfall, he assured that the administration is fully prepared to handle any challenges. He expressed hope that snowfall would enhance tourist footfall during the winter festival.

In view of the increasing fire incidents during winters, The Div Com advised general public to adhere to Fire Prevention Advisory issued by the Divisional Administration for Winters and instructed to conduct audit of heating and winter appliances to prevent such incidents.

The event was attended by Director Handicrafts & Handloom, Mussarat Zia, senior departmental officers, artisans, and people from different walks of life.

To add cultural vibrancy to Jashn-e-Chilai-Kalan, the department also organized musical performances at the Exhibition Ground, Kashmir Haat.
