Nizam-ud-Din Bhat chairs meeting of Committee on Privileges, discusses protocols of Legislators

JAMMU: A meeting of the Committee on Privileges of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held today under the Chairmanship of MLA, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, at the Assembly Complex, Jammu, to deliberate on issues related to the constitutional privileges and entitlements of Legislators.

Legislators, Vikram Randhawa, Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Salman Sagar, Javaid Iqbal, Dr Narinder Singh Raina and Dr Bharat Bhushan, besides the Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Manoj Kumar Pandit, were present in the meeting.

Threadbare discussions were held on various issues related to privileges and protocols with respect to members of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. Besides, the present status of observations made by the Committee in its previous meetings was also deliberated upon.

Commissioner Secretary, GAD, M Raju; Secretary, H&P Department, Niraj Kumar and Secretary, Law, Justice and PA, Achal Sethi were also present in the meeting.

The Committee was informed that the concerned departments have deliberated upon the observations made by the Committee in its previous meetings, and a proposal in this regard has been prepared and forwarded to the CM for approval.

The Chairman directed the officers to share the entire deliberations in respect of the proposal forwarded to the Chief Minister with the  Committee in its next meeting.

The members gave their valuable suggestions to make the Committee more vibrant and result-oriented. They stressed on maintaining protocols to safeguard the dignity and effective functioning of elected representatives.

Earlier, the Committee observed a two-minute silence on the demise of the mother of the Secretary, Law, Justice and PA, Achal Sethi.

Among others, senior officers of the concerned departments and the Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
