Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Women’s Wing President and MLA Habba Kadal, Shameema Firdous, has urged New Delhi to fulfill its commitment of restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying that there is no justification for further delaying the promised measure.

Shameema Firdous said that the restoration of statehood is a legitimate democratic right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and a commitment that has been repeatedly assured at various constitutional and political forums.

She emphasized that prolonged uncertainty has only deepened public discontent and eroded trust. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have shown patience and faith in the democratic process. There is absolutely no reason to withhold the promised statehood any longer. Restoring statehood is essential for ensuring accountable governance, strengthening democratic institutions and addressing the aspirations of the people,” she said.

The NC Women’s Wing President further stressed that elected representatives must be empowered to function effectively to address pressing social, economic and developmental challenges faced by the region. She added that statehood is crucial for safeguarding the dignity, rights and identity of the people.

Shameema Firdous appealed to the Government of India to act decisively and honor its commitment by restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest, in the interest of democracy, stability, and lasting peace.
