Srinagar: Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday ordered an inquiry into the incident at Child and Maternity Hospital, Anantnag, where a 24-year-old woman died after giving birth, an incident that had triggered allegations of medical negligence and protests by family members and locals.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the government has appointed the Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, as inquiry officer, who has been asked to submit a detailed report along with her recommendations within 14-days positively.

“Sanction is hereby accorded to the appointment of Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal, Government Medical College, Srinagar as Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed enquiry into the incident that occurred on 08.12.2025 at Child and Maternity Hospital, Anantnag, delineating the entire sequence of events,” the government order reads.

“Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Medical Superintendent, Child and Maternity Hospital, Anantnag will assist the Inquiry Officer. The Inquiry Officer shall submit a detailed enquiry report along with her recommendations within 14 days positively from the date of issuance of this order,” the order further reads.
