Srinagar: Police in Sopore have arrested seven persons for their alleged involvement in a case of theft and recovered stolen property from their possession.

A police spokesperson informed that Police Station Panzalla received a complaint from Suheel Shafi Mir, Assistant Executive Engineer, Mechanical New Lift Sub-Division (MICD) Srinagar, regarding theft at Lift Irrigation Scheme, Check-Gujri Station (Stage 2nd).

A case was registered and during investigation, multiple suspects were questioned.

One suspect — Ubaid Riyaz Dar, son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar of Untoo Hamam Sopore, confessed his involvement and also revealed that he along with five others had committed the theft. Police identified the other accused as Kaiser Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan Dar; Kaiser Nazir Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar; Majid Ahmad Dar alias Muqaib, son of Mehraj-ud-Din Dar; Javaid Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar, and Usman Nazir Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, all residents of Ningli Sopore, saying that they all were arrested.

Besides them a scrap dealer Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar, also a resident of Ningli Sopore, who had purchased the stolen items, was also arrested.

Subsequently, police recovered the stolen property from a godown located at Sofi Akbar Road, Bypass Ningli Sopore.

In a separate case of theft of livestock in Pinjoora Shopian, police arrested three accused – Mohammad Ashraf Khatana (driver); Arshid Ahmad Khatana, and Amjad Hussain Khatana, all residents of Kanla Khawas Rajouri but presently putting up at Padshahi Bagh Srinagar.

Police said that they traced the movement of the suspects and intercepted them while they were attempting to travel towards Rajouri via Mughal Road in a vehicle (JK04E-8856), which was also seized.
