Srinagar: The Raj Bhavan in Jammu and Kashmir, the residence of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has been renamed as ‘Lok Bhavan’, officials said.
Following a directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the LG’s Principal Secretary, Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, has issued an order in this regard.
“ln pursuance of communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government of India vide Memo No.7/10/2025 (Part)-M&G dated 25/11/2025 and as per the direction of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, it is hereby notified that the name of the Institution “Raj Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir’ has hereby been modified and named as “Lok Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir’. Raj Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir shall henceforth be referred to only as “Lok Bhavan, Jammu and Kashmir”, said the order.
Earlier, on November 30, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta has officially renamed Raj Niwas as Lok Niwas, marking a historic moment for the Union Territory.
This step follows the Union Home Ministry’s notification issued on November 25, 2025, directing that all Raj Bhavans be renamed Lok Bhavan and all Raj Niwas,
