Reflecting this commitment, a significant step was taken today with the laying of the foundation stone for the conservation of the ancient water pond near Shiv Mandir in Ward No. 68, Greater Kailash (Lane No. 27). The ceremony was led by MLA, Dr. Narinder Singh, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation.

MLA, Dr. Narinder Singh, while addressing the gathering, called upon the community to actively participate in preserving traditional water sources. Stressing the importance of water conservation in today’s time, he encouraged residents to promote rainwater harvesting to help improve groundwater levels. He urged everyone to contribute towards sustainable practices that ensure the longevity of natural water resources.

As part of the developmental initiatives for the ward, Commissioner, Dr. Devansh Yadav also handed over 300 streetlights for installation at various locations. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yadav highlighted the deep cultural and ecological significance of traditional ponds, stating that these water bodies have historically served as essential community resources. He reaffirmed JMC’s dedication to restoring such heritage sites and appealed to the public not to pollute these water sources by throwing garbage or waste into them. He encouraged residents to take advantage of the facilities being provided and to work collectively for their proper upkeep and expansion.

Dr. Yadav further directed the Electric Wing officials to identify and illuminate dark stretches within the ward especially areas where women, senior citizens and children face inconvenience during nighttime. Installing streetlights at the earliest, he said, would help improve safety and curb activities of mischievous elements, drug addicts, and other troublemakers.

The event witnessed the presence of Joint Commissioner (Works) Firdous Ahmed Qazi, Executive Engineer Division 5, Er.  Yasir Bashir Kichloo, Executive Engineer (Electric) Er. Simar Pal Singh, Chief Transport Officer, Dharamveer Singh, local residents, senior citizens, women and several other dignitaries, all of whom expressed support for the initiative.
