Anantnag: Anantnag Police on Sunday arrested three youth accused of intimidating locals in Kokernag by displaying toy-like weapons and allegedly issuing threats inside a house in Hiller village.

Police said the action followed credible input that a group was moving through the area with fake firearms and creating panic among inhabitants.

According to officials, Police Station Kokernag registered FIR No. 122/2025 under Sections 333 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after receiving information that the group had entered the house of Ab Majeed Ahanger, son of Ab Rehman Ahanger of Hiller, where they reportedly issued threats that alarmed the neighbourhood.

A joint team from Police Station Kokernag and SOG Kokernag, under the supervision of the SDPO Kokernag, launched a swift operation and apprehended three individuals. They have been identified as Yasir Ahmad Kasana, son of Mohd Mirza of Anderwani Sagam Kokernag, Ajaz Ahmad Famda, son of Mohd Rafiq of Thamankote Verinag Kapran, and Shahid Ahmad Teli, son of Javed Ahmad Teli of Hiller Arhama Kokernag.

Police recovered a dummy AK-47 rifle, a dummy pistol, and a green-coloured pouch from their possession. Officials said the group had attempted to create fear among locals by brandishing the toy weapons in public spaces.

Police stated that their timely intervention prevented further intimidation attempts and helped restore a sense of security in the area. The investigation is underway to determine whether the accused had attempted similar acts elsewhere.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity to nearby police units. Police Anantnag reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, safety and security across the district. (KNT)
