The programme was organised by PCC Media Panellist Sohit Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, PCC President Tariq Hameed Karra said that the people of Jammu & Kashmir have been waiting for more than 6 years for the restoration of statehood & constitutional rights, status, identity, and other democratic rights, which were unilaterally taken away without their consent.
He stressed that the Congress Party stands firmly with the people and will continue to raise its voice until full statehood is reinstated. Karra added that development, peace, and progress cannot be taken forward unless full statehood & democratic structures are restored and people are empowered. He said the Humari Riasat, Humara Haq Campaign aims to take this message to every household, through corner meetings for a peaceful & democratic mass movement as the voice of the people is being ignored by the BJP government at the centre.
He questioned the BJP and its 29 MLAs and MPs from J&K asking them to break their silence & clear their stand on this most important of 1.40 cr citizens of J&K.
Also speaking at the program, Working President Raman Bhalla emphasized that the people of Jammu region in particular have suffered administrative neglect, unemployment, economic slowdown, and increased distress after the downgrading of the state into a Union Territory. He said that large promises were made, but on the ground, residents are still battling inflation, rising electricity bills, poor infrastructure, and lack of job opportunities. Bhalla asserted that the Congress Party will continue to expose the failures of the present administration and fight for the restoration of dignity and rights that rightfully belong to the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He thanked the people of the area for their whole hearted support.
Former Minister and Ex-MLA Jammu East Yogesh Sawhney criticised the current governance model, stating that the bureaucratic system imposed in J&K has distanced decision-making from the common people. He said elected representatives were replaced by administrators who are neither accessible nor accountable to the public. This, according to Sawhney, has deeply affected grassroots development, civic planning, and public grievance redressal. He said the Congress Party’s campaign is meant to awaken people to the erosion of democratic institutions and encourage them to demand their rights forcefully. Sawhney added that Jammu East has always been politically conscious, and its people understand the importance of restoring statehood and elected government.
Chief Spokesperson JKPCC & Ex-MLC Ravinder Sharma stated that the Humari Riasat, Humara Haq Campaign is not just a political movement but a people-centric struggle for Dogra identity, status and rights. He said the Restoration of Darbar Move was promised by Congress in its manifesto and has been fulfilled by the coalition government, and has revived the business activities in Jammu, and led to the revival of social, cultural & trade exchange between the two regions.
He said that the abrogation of the historical Dogra state was an anti-people action of the BJP government and needs to be reversed without delay.
