Srinagar: Renowned poet, film-maker, novelist, short story writer, journalist and presenter, Fayaz Dilbar, passed away Sunday evening at Sheerin Bagh, SMHS, Srinagar after a brief spell of illness, leaving his family, friends, admirers, and fans mourning.
Known all over India, in literary circles, as one of the best poets and storytellers, Dilbar had a unique mastery over both Kashmiri and Urdu languages. Not only that, though he was not that, his dialogues written in Hindi and Haryanavi were par excellence. He was just the master of all.
After working as a journalist in Kashmir for several years, he shifted to Delhi and joined the electronic media. He spent several decades in Delhi and had become a Delhite but not losing connection with his, what he used to call, Mouj Kasheer.
A few years back, he constructed a beautiful home at Harwan and started living there during the summer. After consultations with other locals there, he decided to name this new colony as Koh-i-Daman and the streets were named in Kashmiri – Goudnuik Kocha, Doyum Kocha, Tryum Kocha…This whole summer, he was there, and there he fell ill and was admitted to the hospital.
His demise has created a huge vacuum in the literary landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, which can never be filled. His Kashmiri poetry smelt of Kashmir, Kashmir’s landscape, cuisine, traditions, culture and everything. And his Urdu poetry was torch bearer of Ganga-Yamuna culture and had the fragrance of Mir Taqi Mir, Ghalib and Mir Dard.
While the literary and journalistic circles in Kashmir mourn his demise, he leaves for an unseen world. REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.
In his passing, Kashmir Images family has lost a guiding force, a true friend, an anchor and expresses solidarity with Nasreen and Firas and all the relatives, friends and fans of Dilbar.
The Nimaze Jinazah would be offered at Darbagh, Kohi Daman, Harwan at 10.30 am on Monday, and his mortal remains would be laid to rest at Malkhah Srinagar afterwards.
