Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Bollywood actor Sunil Shetty on Sunday flagged off the Kashmir Marathon 2.0 -2025 in Srinagar, transforming the city’s streets into a lively symbol of peace, unity, and sporting spirit.

According to KNS Correspondent ,event began at dawn from Polo View, with hundreds of runners pacing along the picturesque Boulevard Road that runs beside the serene Dal Lake. Organised by the Department of Tourism, Kashmir, in association with the J&K Sports Council, the marathon featured several race categories — the full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), and shorter runs designed for local participants and amateurs.

More than 1,500 runners from 27 states and Union Territories across India and 77 international athletes from 11 countries took part in this year’s edition, showcasing Kashmir’s emergence as a global destination for sports and tourism.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who led the flag-off ceremony alongside senior officials and Bollywood personalities, said the marathon reflects the Valley’s message of togetherness and positive change.

Addressing the gathering, Sunil Shetty said, “People are running for Kashmir and for India. It’s heartening to see the energy and enthusiasm among people of all ages. I am very happy to be here and will try to return every year to encourage more participation.”

Sports Minister Satish Sharma lauded the initiative, saying, “Through this marathon, we are sending out a message of peace, love, prosperity, and brotherhood. With more than 1,200 participants, including around 100 international runners, the event truly celebrates Kashmir’s unity in diversity.”

The Kashmir Marathon 2.0 continues to serve as a bridge between sports and tourism, reinforcing the Valley’s image as a land of hospitality, natural beauty, and harmony.(KNS)
