Srinagar: Police have arrested nine drug peddlers in Shopian, Budgam and Pulwama and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesman said in Shopian, Mohammad Zafran Lone, resident of Tanger, Ramban and Irfan Yatoo, resident of Verinag, Kapran — both working at Pandit Colony, Allowpora, Keegam – were arrested after cannabis-like substance weighing approximately 190 grams was recovered from their possession.

Near Salsabeel Educational Institute, Humhama  (Budgam), police arrested two persons — Javid Ahmad Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone, and Sakir Rashid, son of Ab. Rashid Dar, both residents of Humhama – after  18.4 grams of cannabis was recovered from them.

In Pulwama, at a checkpoint near veterinary point at Dangerpora, police intercepted a motorcycle (JK02BT/3985) with two persons riding it. Upon their personal searches, 553.5 grams of cannabis-powder and 19 grams of cannabis-like substance was from their possession. Identified as Abrar Ahmad Yatoo, son of Ghulam Nabi, of Sonachuk Rajpora, and Waqar Ahmad Chopan, son of Ghulam Mohammad, resident of Gund Hyder Dangerpora – both were arrested.

At Mughalpora police seized a motorcycle (JK13B/0269) and arrested three persons riding it after cannabis weighing 29.5 grams, 31 grams, and 22 grams respectively was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Kasana, son of Mir Hussain, resident of Chawan Keller; Bilal Ahmad Gorsi, son of Mohammad Sadiq of Zampathri Shopian; and Ahmad Gorsi, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Zampathri Shopian.
