Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference today intensified its campaign for the Budgam by-elections, with the Party’s candidate Aga Syed Mehmood and Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, reaching out to people across various areas of the constituency.

During the campaign, the leaders received a warm response from the public as they highlighted the National Conference’s legacy of service, accountability, and inclusive development.

They cautioned the electorate against the dubious and opportunistic politics of the PDP, reminding people of the party’s role in the 2015 government formation with the BJP, which they said laid the foundation for the political chaos and disempowerment witnessed in 2019.

They reminded people how the PDP’s alliance with the BJP in 2015 opened the doors for the systematic erosion of J&K’s special status, ultimately culminating in the events of 2019. The leaders also exposed the PDP’s complicity in the extension of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to Jammu and Kashmir, a move that stripped the state of its fiscal autonomy and weakened its economic safeguards. They termed it one of the most damaging policy decisions, disguised as reform but executed to dilute the state’s unique constitutional and economic identity.

Urging people to remain vigilant, they warned against those now attempting to wear new masks to mislead voters for electoral gains. The leaders said that Budgam has always stood for dignity, unity, and truth values that the National Conference continues to uphold uncompromisingly.

They reiterated that the ongoing campaign is aimed at restoring people’s faith in representative politics and ensuring that Budgam sends a strong message of resistance against deception and divisive politics. Calling for political awareness, they urged voters to see through the new masks worn by the same old faces, who now attempt to rebrand themselves after inflicting irreparable harm on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from local leaders, party workers and supporters across the constituency.
