Srinagar: Police in Awantipora have arrested an individual for impersonating as a person with close ties to police and other authorities thereby extorting money from the public, a police spokesperson informed Saturday.
He said action was initiated following a complaint filed by Raiees Ahmad Yatoo, son of Bashir Ahmad Yatoo of Pampore, stating that the accused Faizan Amin, son of Mohammad Amin, resident of Patal Bagh, Pampore, was fraudulently posing as a well-connected individual within the Police department and demanding money under various pretexts. He allegedly targeted individuals by exploiting their fear of legal action to extort money.
Many other victims also came forward with similar allegations of threats and coercion, following which a case was registered under sections (319) 2 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused fraudster was arrested.
