Srinagar: The North Kashmir Football Premier League 2025, organized annually by the Bandipora Rashtriya Rifles in memory of Major Gopi Singh Rathore, Shaurya Chakra, concluded with great fanfare at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium, Bandipora on Monday.

Over the past two decades, the tournament has grown into one of the most prestigious sporting events in North Kashmir, reflecting the region’s deep-rooted passion for football. A record 32 teams participated in this year’s edition — the highest in the tournament’s history — highlighting the growing enthusiasm of Kashmiri youth for football. The top two teams from each sector advanced to the second phase, where spirited matches drew large crowds and created a festive sporting atmosphere.

The final match, played between Hyderbeigh FC Yadipora and Meetu Football Club, witnessed an electrifying contest in front of more than 3,000 cheering spectators. The event was graced by the presence of the General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Force (Kilo), along with senior officials from the District Administration, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and CRPF.

Throughout the competition, players exhibited remarkable stamina, skill, and discipline — hallmarks of true sportsmanship. The tournament not only provided a platform to identify and nurture young football talent but also fostered team spirit and strengthened social bonds among the local youth.

Beyond the realm of sports, the initiative has significantly enhanced goodwill and trust between the local population and the Indian Army, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to community development and youth engagement in Kashmir through constructive sporting avenues.

The 2025 edition of the North Kashmir Football Premier League will be remembered as a landmark celebration of sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and unity, paying a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of Major Gopi Singh Rathore, Shaurya Chakra.
