Banihal: A young man from Pulwama district was injured on Sunday evening after allegedly attempting to end his life by jumping off the Banihal Bypass flyover along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.

According to local residents, the youth jumped from the flyover near the Old Excise Toll Post area of the Banihal Bypass. Witnesses including students from the nearby Faizul Islam madrassa, rushed to his rescue and immediately shifted him to the Sub District Hospital Banihal.

Hospital authorities said that after providing first-aid, the injured was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for specialized treatment.

Police identified the youth as Haziq Ahmad, aged about 26–27 years, son of Abdul Qayoom Dar, a resident of Rahmoo, Pulwama.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further investigation.
