A multifaceted person, Sat Paul Sahni had a lengthy and distinguished career in media, particularly photography, in addition to playing a key role in the establishment of the IIPA in Jammu & Kashmir. His memory and achievements are preserved via the annual lecture.

Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, IAS (Retd), former Advisor to the Governor was the Chief Guest on this occasion while B.R Sharma, IAS (Retd), Former Chairman IIPA J&K Regional Branch and former chief secretary J&K was presiding the function. Prof Shahid Rasool Professor and Dean School of Media Studies, Dean Academic Affairs, Media and Public Relations Centre CUK delivered 15th Shri Sat Paul Sharma Memorial Lecture on the occasion.

Highlighting the Viksit Bharat 2047 or developed India-2047, a broader national vision for India to become a fully developed nation by 2047 on its 100th anniversary of independence through infrastructural development, social empowerment, economic growth, technical innovation, and environmental sustainability, the speakers said the Vikist Bharat-2047 is an endeavor seeking complete development with an emphasis on citizen self-reliance and a high standard of living.

They said the objective includes enhancing government, raising living conditions for all residents, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

They highlighted the life and character of the late Sahni, stating that he was a seasoned media professional who was regarded as one of the first icons of journalism from J&K. He was one of the few renowned journalists of Kashmir during the era of Independence who had established high standards for journalism and upheld them throughout their lives.

“He became one of the two general secretaries of the Kashmir Literary Society and was actively involved in other college activities, such as athletics, literature, and student union activities. From 1939 until 1943, he served as the General Secretary of the J&K section of the All India Students Federation, which he was affiliated with. When Mahatma Gandhi visited Kashmir in August 1947, he had the honor of serving as his local secretary, Prof. Shahid Rasool stated in his speech,” Prof Shahid Rasool said in his address.

Sahni, a multifaceted, endearing individual and an amazing presenter, he claimed, in his over his 60-year journalism career, represented nearly all of the major news outlets, including national and international newspapers, magazines, wire agencies, radio, and television.

“Sahni was a pioneer of photo-journalism in Kashmir, which was his first and lasting passion, but he was also one of the few well-known journalists in the nation who had mastered practically every aspect of journalism,” he added.
