Srinagar: As part of ongoing efforts to prevent misuse of mobile communication channels, police conducted a district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors in Anantnag areas.
Surprise checks were carried out at multiple locations to ensure strict adherence to KYC norms, thorough verification of identity and address documents, and safeguards against unauthorized issuance of SIM cards that could otherwise be exploited for unlawful or anti-national activities, police spokesperson said in a statement here.
He said police officials engaged with vendors during the inspections and reiterated that secure and accountable communication networks are vital for the safety of the district. Vendors were categorically directed to follow all regulatory procedures, with a clear warning that any lapse or negligence would lead to strict legal action, including cancellation of licenses and criminal prosecution.
Police further appealed to the public to remain alert and report any irregularities or suspicious activities linked to SIM issuance. Reiterating its zero-tolerance approach, police assured that such security-driven inspections will continue regularly to strengthen preventive measures and maintain peace and stability in the district.
