Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, on Thursday, paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries, remembering their extraordinary contributions to India’s freedom, unity, and progress.

He said that Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of truth, non-violence, and communal harmony continues to inspire generations across the world. “Gandhi Ji’s unwavering commitment to ahimsa and secularism laid the moral foundation of our democratic republic. At a time when divisive forces seek to tear apart the social fabric of the country, Gandhiji’s message of peace, tolerance, and inclusive nationhood is more relevant than ever,” he said.

He urged the youth to study Gandhiji’s life and teachings deeply. “Let us renew our pledge to uphold the Gandhian ideals in both personal conduct and public life,” he said.

Remembering Lal Bahadur Shastri, Dr Farooq Abdullah praised the former Prime Minister’s humility, courage, and commitment to the common man. “Shastriji was a statesman of great moral strength who led the country during a time of immense challenge. His famous slogan, ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, continues to resonate deeply with the spirit of India. He championed the rights of farmers and soldiers, and worked tirelessly for peace and social equity,” he said.
