Rana reviews water supply and irrigation issues in Sonawari

SRINAGAR: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting at Civil Secretariat here to assess the status of water supply and irrigation infrastructure in the Sonawari area.

The meeting was convened to evaluate ongoing projects, identify bottlenecks and formulate actionable solutions to enhance water accessibility in the area.

MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone and senior officers of Jal Shakti Department were present during the meeting.

Officers presented detailed reports on the implementation of various water supply schemes, functionality of irrigation canals and measures being taken to address seasonal water scarcity.

The Minister stressed the need for the timely execution of all sanctioned works, particularly in vulnerable and underserved areas.

He directed the concerned officers to expedite developmental projects, ensure equitable distribution of drinking water and promote efficient irrigation practices to support local agriculture.

MLA Hilal Lone raised several constituency-specific issues and urged the department to intensify efforts in addressing public grievances.

The Minister assured full departmental support for improving service delivery and enhancing infrastructure, reaffirming Omar Abdullah-led Government’s commitment to sustainable water management in Sumbal-Sonawari.
