Jammu: Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Gulam Ali Khatana, took a strong dig at Omar Abdullah and his government, reminding him that the mandate of the people is a responsibility to serve, not provoke.

Speaking with deep concern for the people of Jammu & Kashmir, Khatana said that the government, instead of fulfilling promises of development and relief, has left people frustrated with hollow words and unfulfilled commitments.

Khatana noted that the people had entrusted Omar Abdullah with hopes of jobs for the youth, security for farmers, and better infrastructure for all. One year on, these hopes have turned into disappointment. “The people voted with expectations of change, service, and good governance. What they have received instead are speeches, distractions, and delays. Families are struggling, youngsters remain jobless, and hardworking farmers are left without support. This is not the leadership our people deserve,” he said.

Recalling the devastating floods, Khatana expressed deep concern that the government failed to stand by its people during their time of greatest need. “Even now, flood victims are waiting for proper rehabilitation and relief. Their suffering continues while the government remains silent. When people were battling for survival, they needed a hand to hold them, not excuses,” he added.

He emphasized that true leadership is about compassion, commitment, and standing shoulder to shoulder with the people in their most difficult moments. “Governments are not elected to provoke emotions or issue statements, but to wipe tears, create opportunities, and deliver development. The people of Jammu & Kashmir are crying out for action, not words,” Khatana remarked.

Urging Omar Abdullah to introspect, Khatana called on the government to rise above rhetoric and focus on governance. “The time for theatrics is long over. People want results on the ground — jobs, security, better services, and dignity in their daily lives. If the government continues to ignore people’s pain, it must be prepared to face their anger and rejection,” he warned.

During his visit to various parts of Jammu today, Khatana also met local merchants and businessmen. He listened to their difficulties, particularly regarding trade and taxation, and explained how GST reforms are improving transparency and boosting growth. He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives to empower small businesses, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen the local economy. Business leaders appreciated his guidance and expressed hope that these measures would open up new opportunities for prosperity in the city.

Khatana concluded by affirming that Jammu & Kashmir needs a government that heals, unites, and serves. “People gave their mandate with love and trust, not to be provoked but to be uplifted. Every leader must remember — power is temporary, but service to the people creates a legacy that lives forever,” he said with conviction.
