BJP betrayed people of Jammu at crucial time: Bhalla

Jammu: Working President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and former Minister, Raman Bhalla, today lambasted the BJP for its failure to address the day-to-day problems of the people in the Jammu region.

On Tuesday, Bhalla visited Malikpur Panchayat in the RS Pura Assembly constituency to take stock of the situation arising from the recent floods that wreaked havoc across Jammu. During his visit, he interacted with affected families, listened to their grievances, and assured them of his party’s support in getting their issues addressed.

While addressing the gathering, Bhalla launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, accusing them of being “completely disconnected” from ground realities. He said that despite receiving overwhelming support from the people in elections, BJP leaders had failed to reach out to the public during their time of crisis.

“Instead of extending a helping hand to flood-hit families and mitigating their sufferings, BJP leaders have left people at the mercy of God. It is unfortunate that those in power are shamelessly indulging in cheap politics rather than addressing the real concerns of common people,” Bhalla said.

The JKPCC leader highlighted that every section of society had been badly hit by the floods. Farmers lost their crops, daily wagers and labourers are struggling for survival, and small traders and transporters are facing mounting economic difficulties.

He drew special attention to the plight of transporters, pointing out that they were among the worst affected due to damage to roads and infrastructure, yet no relief measures had been announced for them.

Expressing his anguish over the alleged neglect of Jammu in developmental priorities, Bhalla said the region continues to remain deprived in key sectors such as health, education, tourism, and infrastructure development. “The BJP, despite representing the region both in the Assembly and Parliament, has failed to safeguard Jammu’s interests. The absence of policy and vision has resulted in the continued marginalization of Jammu in every sphere of life,” he remarked.

Bhalla further accused the BJP of misleading the people with hollow promises while ignoring ground realities. “The sufferings of flood victims have exposed the insensitivity of the ruling dispensation. The time has come for the people of Jammu to see through the rhetoric and hold the BJP accountable for their failures,” he said.

The Congress leader reiterated his party’s commitment to stand by the affected families and demanded immediate relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood-hit population. He also urged the administration to take concrete steps for long-term flood mitigation to prevent such devastation in the future.

Bhalla added that instead of reaching out to the masses, BJP leaders in general, and elected representatives in particular, have confined themselves to air-conditioned rooms at this crucial juncture. “BJP’s elected representatives are missing from the ground because they have no concern for the common masses,” he said.

Gurmeet Singh, block president of Miran Sahib, along with Inderpal Singh, Babu Singh, Dharminder Singh, Mohinder Singh, Rashpal Singh, Manjeet Singh, Madan Singh, Harvinder Singh, Yashpal Singh, Yashpal Bhagat, Davinder Sharma and others also spoke on the occasion.
